Elinor’s Take:

What I like about this opportunity is the simplicity of the operating model. This is a home-based travel business established in 2009, generating roughly $390,000 in revenue and $206,000 in stated SDE, with just one full-time employee and a network of contracted suppliers on the ground. That tells me the business may have a very attractive cost structure and strong margins. I also like that there are tangible transferable assets beyond the owner’s personal know-how, including the website and domains, client list, TripScripts, and cost-analysis tools used for trip pricing. The seller is also offering two months of transition support and indicates a willingness to remain available for continued training, which could help reduce transition risk.

My caution is that the same lean structure that makes the financials attractive could also mean this business is highly dependent on the owner. With only one full-time employee, I would want to know exactly who designs the trips, manages supplier relationships, sells to clients, handles problems while guests are traveling, and maintains the destination expertise that the listing describes as central to the company’s value proposition.

The asking price of $739,000 represents roughly 3.6x stated SDE, which is not unreasonable on its face, but I would not pay that multiple without understanding how much of the $206,000 in SDE is truly transferable after replacing the seller’s labor. I would also want more evidence behind the listing’s claims that the company is “scalable” and has significant growth potential, particularly historical revenue trends, repeat and referral rates, customer acquisition channels, supplier concentration, and whether the brand itself generates demand or whether customers are primarily buying because of the owner’s personal expertise and relationships.

In other words, the margins are appealing, but the real question for a buyer is whether they are buying a durable travel company or inheriting a very profitable owner-operated role.
